Anion-Dependent Switch in C–X Reductive Elimination Diastereoselectivity
Reaction of a complex Pt organometallic species with electrophilic halogen sources in the presence of X- ligands changes the mechanism of reductive elimination from a concerted reductive coupling type to an SN2 type reductive elimination. In the absence of the added X- ligand the reductive elimination is stereoretentive; in its presence, the process is stereoinvertive. This selectivity hinges o...
متن کاملHalide-Dependent Mechanisms of Reductive Elimination from Gold(III)
Two unique organometallic halide series (Ph3P)Au(4-Me-C6H4)(CF3)(X) and (Cy3P)Au(4-F-C6H4)(CF3)(X) (X = I, Br, Cl, F) have been synthesized. The PPh3-supported complexes can undergo both C(aryl)-X and C(aryl)-CF3 reductive elimination. Mechanistic studies of thermolysis at 122 °C reveal a dramatic reactivity and kinetic selectivity dependence on halide ligand. For X = I or F, zero-order kinetic...
متن کاملPhotochemical Reductive Elimination of TetrachloroiodateQII)
In analogy to transition metal complexes, coordination compounds of the main group metals can be also classified according to the electron configuration at the metal. Generally, the main group metals occur in oxidation states with so, s2, s2p2 and s2p4 ground states. Recently, we studied the photolysis of so and s2 systems [l-4]. We now report the first results on the photochemistry of an s2p2 ...
متن کاملUranium-mediated oxidative addition and reductive elimination.
Oxidative addition, and its reverse reaction reductive elimination, constitute two key reactions that underpin organometallic chemistry and catalysis. Although these reactions have been known for decades in main group and transition metal systems, they are exceptionally rare or unknown for the f-block. However, in recent years much progress has been made. In this Perspective article, advances i...

StereoElectronic Control of Unidirectional Reductive Elimination (SECURE) is provided by the cyclophane substituent on iodine(III). Computational and experimental studies demonstrate that out of plane steric bulk strongly destabilizes the reductive elimination transition state, and leads to regiochemical control. This approach should be general for high valent main group and transition metal ions.
